Dale was down in San Diego a few weeks ago for a business meeting and got a chance to go by and see the old girl at Kris and Guy's home.  We are both glad he did so, because as he said, she looked tired and ready for a good rest.  She crossed The Bridge this afternoon, peacefully in her sleep.  She joins her momma Jazzee and daddy Jack as well as all of her brothers and sisters who crossed before her.

Kris, Guy, Katie and Betsy loved Catera with all their hearts.  When we were making our move to Oregon in 2006, I knew it would break their hearts for Catera to move so far away, so I made what I thought at the time a difficult decision to let Catera stay there.  As it was, it really wasn't all that difficult a decision; to see the joy on Katie's face when I handed over Catera's papers, signed over to her, made it the right and best thing to do.

Catera became our first Hall of Fame (ASCA) dam, based on the performance of her Chaps pups Ho Dog, Jag, Dancer and Coup.  Her son Rio who went to Kathy and Dave in Canada became a UKC/Best in Show/Reserve Best in Show champion and earned titles in agility, obedience and stock.  He preceeded her in death by accident several years ago.

For the past two plus years, she's been tormented by her great-grandson Henry, a red tri whirlwind.  She tolerated him for the most part, feeling that it was her duty to keep him in line.  I'm not sure whether Henry prolonged her life or shaved some years off it!  I do know she left him some mighty big pawprints to fill, and he's got his work cut out for him.

Sleep well, our tubby little red merle queen.  You are greatly missed by all who knew you

  1. You will be sorely missed, little girl.

Thank you, Dusty, for putting this together. I thought I would add my own favorite picture of our bobbsey twins (Merlin & Catera) on their 10th Birthday:
